The Slate Belt YMCA Founder’s Committee is pleased to announce that the construction on Phase I of the Slate Belt Y has begun!!!

An existing building and 8.3 acres of surrounding land were generously donated by Tighe and Neil Scott.  The new Y will serve residents throughout the Slate Belt and will be located at 317 West Pennsylvania Avenue (the former site of Scotty’s Fashions and Premier Granite).  Renovations will create a wellness center; exercise studio; child watch; lounge and concession area; locker rooms (men’s/boy’s, girl’s/women’s, and family/special needs); and a multi-purpose community room.

Financial support to date includes a $1,010,000 matching gift from the Green Knight Economic Development Corporation of Pen Argyl and a $1,000,000 RCAP contribution.  Fundraising for Phase II of the project has begun and will rely significantly on support from the Slate Belt community.  Phase II will construct at $2,000,000 natatorium including a swimming pool, whirlpool, and sauna.
